A Poem
Written by Alex a few days after our North Dome conquest...
Looking up the sky darkens
Looking down the trail narrows
One step at a time sweat forms
Rising higher up the granite walls
Boulders towering precariously
Seeming to grow ex nihilo
Higher, higher, the trail turns sandy
One step forward one-half step back
Looking back the valley lies wide open
Beauty unnoticed by many
The Merced cuts through the trees
Higher, higher, we are walking up a stairwell
One step at a time my legs tire
The waterfall should be roaring
Instead it lies dry in the summer heat
Finally above the sky has turned pink
Half Dome glows reflecting night’s beauty
Higher, higher, the way appears
Energy sinks into the granite
Body and trail slowly uniting
The mind is sharp, the eyes are open
The top beckons as we draw near
The top, finally reached, God’s creation
All things declare the majesty of the LORD
Descending towards the dry creek
Pools of water left from the early summer
Beckon to enter for a swim
Lower, lower, to cross the bridge
We hope you enjoy this glorious late summer Monday! Grace and peace.
We hope you enjoy this glorious late summer Monday! Grace and peace.
